FCW gets a new editor: David Rapp… and the new marketing person is official

David Rapp
I mentioned that 1105 Government Information Group was close to naming a new editor for Federal Computer Week. Today… they made it official… David Rapp, a long-time executive with Congressional Quarterly.
Thankfully, Rapp will also serve in the newly created role of editor director of all of the 1105 Government Information Group products, something that has been desperately needed.
Here is his note that he sent to CQ announcing his departure, as reported by FishbowlDC in December 2007… and his LinkedIn profile… and his Facebook page.
1105 also announced that Stephanie Decker, previously with The Weekly Standard and Politico, are joining the company as Editorial Director and Director of Marketing.

1105 Media’s Government Division Adds Two Senior Executives
(FALLS CHURCH, VA., December 10, 2008) — 1105 Government Information Group (GIG), a division of 1105 Media, Inc., announced that David Rapp, a long-time executive with Congressional Quarterly, Inc., and Stephanie Decker, previously with The Weekly Standard and Politico, are joining the company as Editorial Director and Director of Marketing, respectively.
Rapp will serve as the editor in chief for Federal Computer Week. In addition, he will serve in the newly-created role of editorial director for all content at GIG, encompassing Defense Systems, Federal Computer Week, Government Computer News, Government Health IT and Washington Technology in online and print forms.
A Washington journalist since 1985, Rapp came up through the ranks of Congressional Quarterly Inc. (CQ), starting as a reporter covering agriculture, rising to Editor of New Media, and ultimately serving as the company’s top editorial executive from 1997 through 2006. During that period he oversaw the creation and development of the award-winning CQ.com, the nation’s premier legislative tracking service. He also led the redesign and repositioning of CQ’s flagship print products, CQ Today and the CQ Weekly, and the development and launch of several e-newsletters. He left CQ in January 2007 to start his own media company and in October of that year launched TravelBeat.net, a network of special-interest travel blogs.
“This is a very specialized market. It is extremely difficult to find an editor who understands business-to-business media as well as government and technology. There are only a handful of people in the country who can check all those boxes,” said Anne Armstrong, President of 1105 Government Information Group. “We are extremely pleased that one of them, David Rapp, is joining our team.
“I’m thrilled to join the team of experts at 1105. They are already ahead of the technology story that will be dominating Washington policy-making and journalism for the coming years, and I’m eager to help them,” said Rapp.
Stephanie Decker, the new Director of Marketing, comes to GIG from The Weekly Standard and Politico. She has a background in sales and marketing management, and will direct the efforts of a three-person marketing team to promote the group’s media efforts in the government marketplace.
“We are delighted to have someone with Stephanie’s government and media experience join our team, and look forward to her contributions to the 1105 Government Information Group” said Evilee Ebb, Group Publisher.
“1105 and GIG have established sterling reputations in the business. They show every indication of desiring to continue to grow. I am proud to be a part of this dynamic team,” said Decker.
Both Rapp and Decker will begin their new jobs in December.
